Sand Magic by True Grit Sand Factory began at the House of Bottles, a world famous structure made from thousands of stubbies housing a collection of 10,000 bottles. (built in 1966) in Tewantin Queensland Australia.

The original owner, George Clifford began Sand Art in Galliano Bottle putting coloured sand in bottles as a memento for visitors to the Cooloola Coast. The concept continued to grow over the years. The House of Bottles changed hands during the ‘80s but the demand for the
coloured sand souvenirs continued to grow and the new owner, B Williams (a well known and talented artist) expanded the coloured sand souvenirs products. A team of wonderful women refined the techniques used to produce this truly unique 100% Australian owned and made souvenir.

The site of the Coloured Sand deposits on the Cooloola Coast are one of only two in the world   The other being located exactly opposite on our globe at Allum Bay on the Isle of Wight.

These deposits of multi-coloured sands are attributed to the effects of decayed matter imparted to pure white sand, layer upon layer over millions of years.

Never mind legend or science – whatever the cause – these earthy hues invite artistic expression. Century-old Aboriginal sand paintings abound all over Australia.

Our talented artists are highly experienced and create picturesque arrangements of coloured sand. Poured delicately into glass vessels they display stunning designs and scenes.

Dreamtime Legend
Dreamtime Legend of Good Luck

A beautiful, black maiden named Murrawar fell in love with the Rainbow who visited every evening.

Burwilla, a bad man from a distant tribe, stole Murrawar for his slave wife. One day Murrawar ran away along the beach and Burwilla followed her with his terrible killing Boomerang. She called for help and her faithful Rainbow raced across the sea to her. The wicked Boomerang attacked the brave Rainbow and they met with a roar like thunder.

The Boomerang was killed instantly while the rainbow was shattered into tiny pieces and lay on the beach. Aboriginal women of many tribes made long treks to obtain and carry or to place in their hair these sands in the belief that the rainbow was their protection or good luck charm always.
