Frequently Asked Questions

Q.    Will the pattern remain the same as when I bought it?
A.    Yes. As the sand is compressed there will be no movement.

Q.    How do I get on with Customs?

A.    The sand has been permeated with a germicide before it is permanently sealed with resin.

Q.    Where does the sand come from?

A.    Initially people took sand from the dunes.
That was stopped when the coloured sand site was declared sacred Aboriginal land and World Heritage Listed. The sand is now locally quarried.

Q.    How are the patterns formed?

A.    There are no fancy tricks or glue used. It is all created by pouring sand into a wide variety of tubes and bottles using specialised tools we created and made ourselves. (Bent wire, old funnels and talented artists).

Dreamtime Legend
Dreamtime Legend of Good Luck

A beautiful, black maiden named Murrawar fell in love with the Rainbow who visited every evening.

Burwilla, a bad man from a distant tribe, stole Murrawar for his slave wife. One day Murrawar ran away along the beach and Burwilla followed her with his terrible killing Boomerang. She called for help and her faithful Rainbow raced across the sea to her. The wicked Boomerang attacked the brave Rainbow and they met with a roar like thunder.

The Boomerang was killed instantly while the rainbow was shattered into tiny pieces and lay on the beach. Aboriginal women of many tribes made long treks to obtain and carry or to place in their hair these sands in the belief that the rainbow was their protection or good luck charm always.
